6 Colors reverse printed on PVC using Sun Chemical ink on a Chesnut press. A very busy sleeve, the illustration captures the jungle atmosphere quite well with plants and animals that we associate with that environment. The type is clean and the overall sleeve quite nice.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on PVC using Sun Chemical Ink on a Chesnut press. It was noted that the four-color process replicated the bird very well and the photographic-quality vignettes throughout the sleeve make it meet the customer’s expectations. The addition of spot color also enhanced the sleeve.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
11 Colors printed on PETG using Sun Chemical inks on a Chesnut press. This sleeve replaced a 1-liter brick pack. The success of this sleeve led the company to completely redesign the packaging for its juice products. The judges could not find much wrong with this sleeve. The reversed out lettering is well defined and the black type very sharp and legible. There were many areas where registration could have been a problem, but was not.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
6 Colors and two lacquers printed on 30 Lb. paper using solvent-based inks on a Bobst Champlain press. This label represents a high-end product that was switched from a white background Flexo printed to the gravure printed black tuxedo stripped can shown. The depth of the potato chip was greatly enhanced by gravure printing and the use of two lacquers allowed the “tuxedo” strip to be produced. The process work is good and the type clean and clear.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
9 Colors reverse printed on opaque OPS Sun Chemical Inks on a Chesnut press. The judges commented that this wrap gives a fiery impression and straight off you expect the contents to be hot! The rays emanating from the center focus the attention on the name of the product. The job is well printed, especially in the small graphics on the back of the wrap and very clear black type. Overall a very nice wrap.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on in-Mold paper using solvent based inks on a Schiavi press. This label is nice and contrasty with deep blacks contrasting well with the yellow and white lettering. The illustration of the headlight is very realistic and the gold car appears shiny and brilliant next to the stark black background. The halftones are nice and the edges of the large type clean and clear.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
10 Colors printed on in-Mold film using solvent based inks on a Schiavi press. The judges commented that the bottom half of the label is soothing and the top half wakes you up with the vivid orange logo. The halftones are technically well executed; solids are good and the type legible and crisp.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
7 Colors printed on heat transfer paper using solvent inks on a Bobst Champlain press. Who could miss the center of attraction? What a busy label that at first glance has a lot of detail that looks almost photographic. Closer inspection reveals a very well produced label, nice illustrations, halftones, solids and type. The use of bright, saturated spot colors and crisp, detailed process images maintain the color consistency necessary for Dolly’s complexion and the background scenes.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on Di-Na-Cal Gloss Finish Release Coated Paper Stock using Di-Na-Cal HTL ink system with two lacquers on a Rotomec press. The customer chose gravure to achieve a photographic image for shelf presence. This looks a delicate label with soft colors. The ripples in the water are realistic, the halftones and solids are nice and the vignettes good. This label must have met the customer’s expectations.

Leinenkugel’s 1888 Bock

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
10 Colors printed on metallized label paper using solvent based ink system on a Schaivi press. This label has plenty of interest in the background illustration; lots of detail and a traditional feel to the result. The use of metalized paper helps add depth to the label. The detail is kept well with good registration and nice halftones. The solids are also well produced.
