PLGA Global Educational Foundation Announces 2008-2009 Scholarship Winner
Rochester, NY, March 26, 2009 — The PLGA Global Educational Foundation is proud to announce the recipient for its 2008-2009 Gravure Scholarship, John Jay Jacobs, a graduate student at Clemson University. Jay was honored at PLGA Global’s recent Operational Conference, held March 11-13, at the Hilton Downtown in Miami, Florida.
John Jay Jacobs was interested in graphics and design from an early age and pursued art and design education while in High School, winning drafting and design awards for his class work. He then attended Clemson University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Communications in 1991.
Jay was hired by Hallmark Nameplate, Inc. in 1992 and held multiple positions during his employment at Hallmark, including Quality Assurance Manager, Art Department Manager, and Graphic Engineer. In 2008, he left to return to graduate school at Clemson.
In his scholarship application, Jay, demonstrated a real understanding of the gravure process—its history, present-day technology, and the possibilities for the future. As Jay summed it up,
“From intaglio printing in the fifteenth century to the circuitry that will run the world of the twenty-first century, gravure has had over half a century of evolution. It has improved our lives in ways most people are completely unaware of. We walk on it. We look at it. We read it. We wear it. The results of gravure are everywhere. With continued innovation and foresight, the gravure process will continue to evolve, helping us to reach further and do more for years to come.”
The PLGA Global membership joined in congratulating John Jay Jacobs as this year’s recipient of this year’s PLGA Educational Foundation Scholarship.
