Rochester, NY, February 27, 2010 — The PLGA Global Educational Foundation is proud to announce the recipient for its 2009-2010 Gravure Scholarship, Laura Kiyoi, a senior at Cal POly San Luis Obispo. Laura was honored at PLGA Global’s recent Operational Conference, held February 24-26, at the Hilton Downtown in Miami, Florida.

Laura Kiyoi is a Graphic Communication major at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and will be graduating this spring.

Although her major is Graphic Communication, she also likes to emphasize that she has an Industrial Technology Packaging minor because of her interest in the material side, as well as the graphics side of packaging. She knows that it is essential for both sides to work together to be successful in the packaging industry.

This past quarter, Laura was the Vice President in charge of graphics for Poly Pack, the Cal Poly packaging club, and she is working with members from various majors to help promote Poly Pack with the skills she’s gained through her studies.

Laura feels that her education at Cal Poly has provided her with numerous opportunities to explore the Graphics Communication and Industrial Technology industries. Through her GrC gravure class, she participated in a field trip to RR Donnelley where she was suitably impressed with their advanced gravure presses. And through Mat Pica Pi, the Graphic Communication club, she visited Pacific Southwest Container, a packaging company in Modesto.

Laura is excited about working in the packaging industry after her graduation this spring and expressed her gratitude to the PLGA Educational Foundation for the scholarship that has allowed her to pursue her interest in packaging.

The PLGA Global membership joined in congratulating Laura Kiyoi as this year’s recipient of the PLGA Educational Foundation Scholarship.
