2003 PLGA Global Print Quality Award Winners

CATEGORY:
Sleeves - More Than 13% Shrink

COMPANY:
Fort Dearborn Co.

ENTRY:
Ragu Rich Meaty Sauce

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Eight-color job with 4 process colors printed on high-shrink film. Judges comments were a bright label with good contrast. Registration is excellent and the half tones and vignettes in the pasta are good. The fine lines were well reproduced and the fine type is clear and sharp.

CATEGORY:
Non-PSA Top Coated Paper Label

COMPANY:
NorthStar Print Group

ENTRY:
Leinenkugel's Amber Light

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Eight-colors on Vacumet embossed metallized paper. The job is considered a good example of line and process work on a difficult to print embossed material. The solid areas printed well and the fine detail is said to evoke the customer's tradition of quality.

CATEGORY:
Non-PSA Surface Printed Label

COMPANY:
NorthStar Print Group

ENTRY:
Coor's Original

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Six-colors printed on metallized PP. The label makes good use of the transparent gold ink and the high gloss of the metallized film. The subtle signature in combination with the mountain background is well handled.

CATEGORY:
Non-PSA Reverse Printed Label

COMPANY:
Diversapack

ENTRY:
Aquafina

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Five-colors printed on a prop/prop laminate. The customer tried to print this job flexo, but could not produce the desired effect in the mountains. Clean type and extensive coverage of blue.

CATEGORY:
In Mold/Label-Paper

COMPANY:
NorthStar Print Group

ENTRY:
Mr. Clean

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Six-colors printed on 60# coated 2-side paper. A nice bright label with legible and clean type and with well printed halftones. Tight registration in the detail on the apples.

CATEGORY:
In Mold Label - Film

COMPANY:
NorthStar Print Group

ENTRY:
Syntec Synthetic Motor Oil

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Six-color job printed on Kimdura. The black is extremely nice and dense. The "pop" is said to be due to the effective use of transparent colors over silver metallic ink. An eye-catching label for a premium product.

CATEGORY:
Heat Transfer Label

COMPANY:
DI-NA-CAL

ENTRY:
Lysol Sanitary Wipes

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Seven-colors printed on Di-Na-Cal gloss finish release coated stock. This seamless label was well produced. The end product is good, the vignettes are nice and the fine type is clean and legible.

CATEGORY:
Cut & Stack Glue Applied Label

COMPANY:
Package Service Co. L.L.C.

ENTRY:
Ken's Steak House

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Five-colors plus overprint varnish printed on 58# metallized paper. A simple label with very good ink coverage, smooth laydown and traps.

CATEGORY:
Paper Coupons, Premiums & Booklets

COMPANY:
NorthStar Print Group

ENTRY:
Mobile Drive Clean

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Six-colors front plus 5-colors back, black reverse prints plus adhesive printed in one pass on 47# FWS paper. A unique approach to solve customer's need. A bright label with good impact. And good clean type on back label.

CATEGORY:
Film Coupons, Premiums & Booklets

COMPANY:
Sonoco, Winnipeg, Mb.

ENTRY:
Celebrating Lottery

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Six-color job printed on a metallized OPP/clear OPP laminate. A difficult job for a lottery pouch with tamper evident characteristics. Register was very good and colors vibrant.
