COMPANY:
Package Service Company

ENTRY:

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Seven colors plus UV printed on white BOPP. The robe and background were printed in a duo-tone format for global color matching. This is a well-produced label with excellent halftones and vignettes. The flesh tones are very good; the type is clean and clear. The die cutting is well done and controlled.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
No Label Look

COMPANY:
Precision Printing & Pkg. Inc.

ENTRY:
Bud Light

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Seven colors + varnish - the depth of color was deemed outstanding, solids are good and the embossing “spot on” register is excellent. Overall a good crisp cigarette carton.

TIE FOR WINNER

CATEGORY:
Stamps

COMPANY:
American Packaging Corp.

ENTRY:
Film Making

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Seven colors plus two lacquers printed on Pressure Sensitive Paper. The use of both matt and gloss over lacquers create the contrast between the film reel containing the stamp images and the side art. The judges commented that the background on the right is ethereal and creates the impression of bygone days. The silver lettering adds to the ambience. The lettering on the back is extremely sharp.

TIE FOR WINNER

CATEGORY:
Film/Film Lamination-Process

COMPANY:
Avery Dennison Security Printing Div.

ENTRY:
Reptiles & Amphibians

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Four colors face with Phosphor coating and single color backside printed on Pressure Sensitive Material with 60# face and 50# liner. This is an ambitious job that is well produced. The black type is very good and the reproduction of the animals is good. Shadow areas are excellent and the close register on a challenging job makes this a winner.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Security Printing

COMPANY:
Avery Dennison Security Printing Div.

ENTRY:
First Flight
JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Four color front print with Phosphor Kill Coating and three-color backside printing on Pressure Sensitive Material with 60# face and 80# liner. The judges commented on the technical difficulties that the printer overcame in producing this job. In addition the colors represent a good rendition of the historic event. The register was outstanding and the type was equally good. An excellent representation.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Special Effects/Novelty

COMPANY:
Multi-Color Corporation

ENTRY:
Finding Nemo
JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Five colors printed on a proprietary heat transfer substrate. The judges commented that this label certainly has attention grabbing, dramatic and contrasting colors. The bold colors and photographic images remarkably duplicate the Disney’s Finding Nemo movie.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Technical Achievement

COMPANY:
Fort Dearborn

ENTRY:
Glade Magic Candles

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
A challenging job on shrink film printed with shrink film inks and Thermo-Chromic inks. Good register and clean images. After application the sleeve maintains, “full color” until the candle is lit. The border of color turns white revealing reverse printed butterflies.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Use of Non-Solvent Ink

COMPANY:
Amgraph Packaging, Inc.

ENTRY:
Swisher Chattanooga Chew

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Four & five color printing on 25# CIS + poly + foil + poly. Job printed with water based ink and disposable gravure sleeves from Italy. The print quality is outstanding, especially for water-based inks. The register is good and the solid density is very good. Overall a good job.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Specialty Converting

COMPANY:
Smurfit-Stone, CA

ENTRY:
Seagram’s Wine Cooler

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
A four pack wine cooler 6 or 7 colors + lacquer printed on carrier craft with wet strength. A four up nested layout of a complicated structure. The judges saw extremely tight cross and running register. The “Seagram’s” logo was nicely done, bright looking colors in box on a tough substrate, good ink laydown.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Process Innovation

COMPANY:
Shorewood Packaging Corp.

ENTRY:

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
Four colors plus varnish on front side and one color plus varnish on back printed on International Paper “Starcoat”. The judges commented on the brilliant deep dark colors, exact register and finely defined lines. The crispness of type is outstanding and die cutting dead on.
