Updates on PLGA Activity in 2004

I am taking this opportunity to give you an outline of what has been happening with and through the efforts of your association during the 5-6 months since our conference this past February in Jacksonville, Florida.

Membership

• June 2003 - 68 Members
• Feb 2004 - 88 Members (+ 29%)
• July 2004 - 101 Members (+15% vs. 6/2003 + 49%)
• Est. March 2005 - 120 Members (+ 19% vs. 2/2004 + 36%)

Packaging Digest will present the 2003 Print Quality Awards winners in their next edition.

Labelexpo Americas (September 2004):

The PLGA has received a complimentary booth at this narrow-mid web show. As of this date, sixteen PLGA members are participating in staffing the booth (an excellent selling opportunity at no cost) and eleven suppliers are providing literature for display and promotion of their companies. Note: There are still openings for staffing the booth and/or providing company literature for display.

CMM (April 2005):

As you may already know, the PLGA has a pavilion site at CMM. Our banner reads as follows: “Gravure, the Quality Advantage.” To date, we have 9-10 suppliers committed to our pavilion at CMM (3,500 sq. ft. of space) with 3-4 others in discussion. We could end up with 4000 sq. ft. + at CMM, which is quite a statement on behalf of the PLGA and the gravure process.

In addition to all of the above, the PLGA now has an active and growing scholarship/educational program. This program is also actively involved with Clemson University to establish the industry’s first gravure training program focused entirely on the needs/interests of packaging, label, and product converting.

Of course, there are other pieces of news concerning the PLGA, but the above will give you a feel for what your association has been doing since our very successful February 2004 conference in Jacksonville, Florida.
