JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Color job printed 4 on the front side and 4 on the backside, in-register front to back on 80 gauge unsupported hard aluminum foil. This product used as a sealable blister lidding is a difficult substrate to print on. The solids are very good and uniform and reverse print type is extremely clean and legible.

COMPANY:
American Packaging Corporation

ENTRY:
Let’s Dance Bailemos

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
9 Colors plus lacquer printed on PSA stock. A colorful set of stamps giving the feeling of Latin American dancing with the various dances. Each has its own color way and the stamps are well printed with good halftones and solid infills. The precision color register and die cutting front to back add complexity to the job.

ENTRY:
Ben Franklin Commemorative

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
6 Colors printed on pressure sensitive stamp stock with a 50 pound liner. This pane of twenty stamps was produced for the USPS in commemoration of Benjamin Franklin’s three hundredth birthday which will occur in 2006. Another colorful set of stamps that demonstrate the gravure process. Each of the twenty stamps in the set is distinctive and reflects the care taken to reproduce the original art. The halftone images are fine and the type is clean, crisp and truly outstanding. The front to back register and die cutting are reflective of the quality demanded by the United States Postal Service.

COMPANY:
Scientific Games International

ENTRY:
Sapphire Blue 7’s

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
7 Colors consisting of four color process colors and three spot colors printed on 10 point CIS board. A nice sample in blue giving the impression of a clear, clean sapphire jewel. The halftones are well printed and the scratch off area standard for this type product. The solid blues are well done and the highlights are clear and clean. The reversed out type is very legible, overall a nice lottery ticket.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on PETG. A nice clean looking sample where the delicate browns and fawn colors blend well with the vignettes. The vignettes are smooth and the type, both reversed out and normal are very clear and legible. The use of a touch of red and blue enhances the label’s appearance.

AD-620 (RFID)

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
1 Color printed on PVC film. This unique application of printing only one color silver ink, precise registration, consistency of coat weight, precise insertion of fragile microchips plus 100% inspection and verification demonstrate that RFID technology is here to stay and that the gravure process will play an important part in its further commercialization.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Special Effects/Novelty

COMPANY:
Alcan Packaging - Atlanta

ENTRY:
Wrigley’s Eclipse Midnight Cool

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
6 to 7 Colors printed on 12 point CIS board. A very good carton package that was achieved by using the white of the board for the white and making the silver into a vignette and using a very strong black and letting it down to get the desired look. The solids are strong and even, the vignettes good and the black type is well produced and clear.

Labatt Blue “The Cold One"

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on film. A nice looking sample with plenty of background interest. The blue stands out against the silver and the red adds a little relief to the blue look. The use of silver ink enhances the sample and the tones in the background are good. A nice sample.
