WINNER

CATEGORY:
Use of Non-Solvent Ink

COMPANY:
Inland Label & Marketing Services

ENTRY:
Henry Weinhard’s Classic Dark

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
7 Colors plus topcoat printed on metallized label paper with water based ink. A dramatic label that is well produced. The blue that dominates the label is good and is complimented by a nice job with the gold. A nice beer label.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Specialty Converting

COMPANY:
Scientific Games International

ENTRY:
Sapphire Blue 7’s

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
7 Colors consisting of four color process colors and three spot colors printed on 10 point CIS board. A nice sample in blue giving the impression of a clear, clean sapphire jewel. The halftones are well printed and the scratch off area standard for this type product. The solid blues are well done and the highlights are clear and clean. The reversed out type is very legible, overall a nice lottery ticket.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Gift Wrap

COMPANY:
Plus Mark, Inc.

ENTRY:
Circle Medallions
JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
6 Colors printed on 45 pound metallized paper using water based ink. The job created an interesting pattern effect on metallized paper. The combination of transparent ink and opaque metallized ink create a nice contrast that results in a three dimensional effect that enhances the product.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Flooring

COMPANY:
Armstrong World Industries

ENTRY:
Urban Setting™ Cottington Scarlet
JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
5 colors printed on vinyl flooring. This job reflects a rich looking floor covering with a deep brown effect contrasting with the yellowish leaves. This is tough to achieve with the pearl colors and good registration. A well-produced sample with good ink coverage.

WINNER

CATEGORY:
Process

COMPANY:
Alcan Packaging - Atlanta

ENTRY:
Wrigley’s Eclipse Midnight Cool

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
6 to 7 Colors printed on 12 point CIS board. A very good carton package that was achieved by using the white of the board for the white and making the silver into a vignette and using a very strong black and letting it down to get the desired look. The solids are strong and even, the vignettes good and the black type is well produced and clear. The elimination of the white ink and using the white board instead caused the customer to proclaim “you hit the target BANG ON”

HONORABLE MENTION

CATEGORY:
Materials

COMPANY:
Ampac Flexibles

ENTRY:
Gleukos Performance Beverage

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
5 Colors reverse printed on the polyester layer. This unique stand-up pouch package was designed to mold to the body when placed in an athletic apparel pocket. The package has a dramatic color change from black to yellow with a smooth transition to vignettes. Nice “silver” printing and very good, clean, clear and crisp type.

WINNER

COMPANY:
Gilbreth Packaging Systems

ENTRY:
Rub ‘N Smell

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on PETG. A nice idea and the rub and smell certainly works. The printing is good with a nice combination of colors giving a tropical feel to the sleeve. The overall effect of the sleeve is pleasing to the eye and the type is crisp and clean.
