8 Colors printed on PETG using shrink ink on a Schiavi press. This sleeve represents a high-end photo illustration. It looks like a delicately produced label with nice pastel shades. The halftones are good and the black nice and sharp.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
7 Colors printed on a PETG substrate using Sun Chemical inks on a Chesnut press. The simple design using complex screens made this sleeve a challenge for the engraver due to the solid screen combo’s utilizing a duotone effect to create the detailed image needed. It is a nice deep colored sleeve with contrasting lettering. The halftones are good as is the reversed out type.

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
8 Colors printed on a PLA substrate (corn based film) using Sun Chemical inks on a Chesnut press. The judges commented that this was a nice bright sample reflecting the orange in the Tangerine in contrast with the red in the cranberries. The reversed out type is very good as are the halftones. The black is legible and the vignettes smooth. There were plenty of opportunities for misregister, but it did not happen.

4 Colors printed on PETG using shrink ink on a Schiavi press. A simple entry that was well executed and met the requirements of the customer in that it provided additional promotional space on the final product.

6 Colors printed on PETG using Sun Chemical inks on a Tecmo press. This is a nice sample that uses the color contrast of black and red to full advantage. The metalics are bright and the silver printing came out extremely well – not easy to print. All of the black type is nice and sharp, the vignettes clean and crisp. A nice package.

6 Colors and two varnishes printed on in mold label paper using modified N/C inks, Acrylic & Polyamide coatings on a Schiavi press. This label represents a high-end photographic design for a new product introduction. It is a nice bright label with good contrast. The black type is crisp and clear, the halftones good and the reversed out type is also good. The illustration reminds us of what our friends in the North are looking at. A very nicely printed label.

4 Colors plus coating printed on opaque PP film for in mold labels using modified N/C inks and a modified polyamide coating on a Schiavi press. This label demonstrates the results that high-end graphics can play in creating an impactful illustration of the cranberries. It is a good-looking label and the fruit does look very good. The halftones are excellent and the black type is clean and clear.

7 Colors plus two lacquers printed on DI-NA-CAL gloss finish release coated stock, using a
DI-NA-CAL HTL ink system and two lacquers on Rotomec press. The printer stated that BMW chose the gravure printing process to achieve superior print detail and eye-catching graphics. The judges commented that the engine illustration looks really good. A nice label front and back with nice contrast all around, especially between the red/blue/yellow. The reversed type is outstanding and we understood why BMW chose the gravure printing process.

7 Colors printed on Therimage stock using solvent-based polyamide N/C inks on a Bobst Champlain press. The use of metallic inks enhances this label. It is a nice looking print job combining silver, green and yellow. Both the solids and halftones are good and the black type is clean and crisp.

It is a neat label and features a nice use of yellow and brown. The type is good and the overall label achieved the desired effect.
