The realistic look and embossing on a difficult substrate make this flooring sample noteworthy, a nice even print job, especially considering the width of the substrate. The judges further commented that the sample has a nice natural look and the texture gives it that 3D effect.

5 Colors printed on metallized Holographic Paper using inks from American Ink and Coatings on a Cerutti press. The combination of transparent and opaque inks was selected to ensure the impeccable detail, provide color balance and match the colors submitted by the customer. The end product resulted in a nice looking gift-wrap with deep, rich solids and sharp images. The use of the translucent inks on a holographic substrate enhanced the results.

6 Colors printed on metallized wet strength paper using Flint Ink and Liquid Crystal Resources Thermal ink on a Schiavi press. This is a nice simple label with clean, clear black type and a good job with the red Coors logo. The mountains definitely turn from white to a blue when the bottle is cooled. The very small reversed out type is also good.

8 Colors printed on PVC using Sun Chemical fade resistant N/C inks on a Chesnut press. The use of fade resistant inks always present a challenge in creating the vivid color required with the associated graphics, especially the red. The flower illustrations were deemed especially good and the reversed out type was clear and clean. The halftones were well executed and the overall package good.

7 Colors printed on SBS board using special Sun Chemical inks and special engravings by SGS on a Bobst press. The judges commented that this was a very busy entry with a unique “GLOW” factor. The small black type is legible and well done. The blue background is solid and the reversed out type is also good. A dramatic package that is well produced.

8 Colors printed on PLA film (made from corn) using Sun Chemical inks on a Chesnut press. The judges stated that this was a bright entry with good normal and reversed out type. The halftones and vignettes are good and the tangerine looks good enough to eat. The newly developed PLA corn film used to create this label is considered earth friendly and sustainable. The material is a challenging substrate due to its inherent brittle nature.
